From 4 stars to 1 star on last update
EVEN MORE BAD NEWS. This program DOES NOT work with El Capitan.
UPDATE: What a waste. This app will STILL NOT properly align any checks. Layout continues to "shift" from one launch of this app to the next. Impossible to use. BEWARE!
UPDATE: We’re 5 months past the last release, and there’s still no update or fix for the crappy alignment issue that v 1.2.1 introduced. The alignment routine is worse in v 1.2.1 than in any other verison and I refuse to redo all of my setups… My advice remains unchanged at this point: STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP - STILL NOT WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Apparently, the author doesn’t think it’s worth it, either, as he has refused to correct the issues and no longer responds to any emails.
UPDATE: Version 1.2.1 was released today. It fixes the issue that caused my printer to spew 3-4 extra pages with every check that I printed… however, it still doesnt line up with the layouts from v1.1.1. I have 5 accounts configured, and rather than redo everything, I have fallen back to v1.1.1. Theres no excuse for shoddy work… especially when I am paying for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP - STILL NOT WORTH THE INVESTMENT.
UPDATE: Version 1.2.0 screwed up the alignment… the previously configured check layout doesnt work any more… and now, when printing checks, the app causes my printer to spew 3 or 4 pages of paper as well as a mis-aligned check. I had to pull v 1.1.1 back from my Time Machine backup. It was supposed to fix issues with Mountain Lion (which I did not experience)… all this did was screw it up royally. Emailed support but still waiting for a response. Its been almost a month and no fix for the new issues and NO RESPONSE to emails requesting assistance. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP UNTIL THE ISSUES ARE RESOLVED.
Frustrated with the lack of manageable "checkbook" type apps that also print checks, I found PrintCheck and gave it a go. (I used the free demo version from their website).
This does what it claims to do - allows you to print checks on your preprinted check stock. But it could use a few additional features and options to make it truly usable.
I use the full-size business checks (3 to a page) that I originally bought to use with Quicken/Windows. I have the layout configured and they print pefectly… except that I can only print one check at a time, and ONLY in portrait mode. There is no option for being able to configure custom "sheet" size so that I can tear the checks apart and feed them into my printer length-wise. So I am forced trying to insert the last check properly into my printer - which has become a hit or miss proposition for the last check on each page.
This app would be perfect if it allowed for multiple checks to be printed at a time, and if it allowed for full page configuration in landscape mode.
I have figured out how to print in landscape mode. However, you are still limited to printing a single check at a time. It would also be helpful to be able to save checks/payees/amounts for recurring check writing. Still a solid 3-star performer.
